June was of course beautiful in the bay and we had some fun with friends in the weeks following the end of biodesign.

salmon with plum, mango and tomato salsa |
The plum tree in our backyard bloomed and we enjoyed super delicious plums for a few weeks. Most of them we ate whole but I also made a plum and tomato salsa on salmon and some plum jam. The peaches we unfortunately never got to taste because they ripened in July while we were gone. When we returned there was not one left. I was fairly devastated.

We played campus golf at Stanford one day, a goofy and fun tradition that we learned about on our campus visit last May. It involves wearing silly costumes, hitting tennis balls around campus with golf clubs and pushing along a shopping cart (in our case, a stroller) filled with beer. We met a bride and groom, jumped in the fountains, and generally made fools of ourselves.

Elise invited us over for homemade seafood paella which was amazingly delicious if labor intensive. I appreciated every bite as I ravenously devoured my plateful.

We celebrated Father's Day with my dad with a hike and a steak dinner on the deck, and Rich got to go to the Father's Day party at Valerie's school.
We enjoyed our usual go-to summer spots, Foothills Park and the fountains on campus.
And then at the end of June it was time to venture out on our great summer vacation to Cincinnati!
